Ulcerative lesions of the gastrointestinal tract are major side effects associated with the use of NSAID’s, alcohol, stress, and ischemic reperfusion. The anti-ulcerogenic activities of many plants product are reported due to increase in mucosal defensive factors rather than decrease in offensive factors. The present study was designed to investigate the anti-ulcer efficacy of a polyherbal drug; Acisim by employing ethanol (80%) induced acute gastric ulceration in rats. There was a significant (p<0.001) decrease in ulcer index and antioxidant parameters in the rats treated with acisim compared to the standard drug Omeprazole. These results suggest that the aqueous form of Acisim possesses potential gastroprotective and antiulcer activity which may be attributed to their antioxidant mechanism.
